DAR ES SALAAM: THE Chief Secretary of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar and Tanzanian Ambassador-designate to Saudi Arabia, Zena Ahmed Said, has called on donors from within and outside Tanzania to direct their assistance toward impactful initiatives capable of transforming the lives of vulnerable people in the long term.
She made the remarks in Dar es Salaam during an Iftar Gala organised by the Social Economic Tier of Turkish Alumni (SETTA) in collaboration with the Turkish Embassy in Tanzania.
Ambassador Zena emphasized that donors should prioritize investments in key sectors such as education, economic empowerment projects and development opportunities instead of focusing solely on short-term assistance like food and clothing.
She noted that such investments have the potential to create sustainable change within communities and help establish a strong foundation for long-term development.
“Investments in education, economic projects and development opportunities can help address the long-term challenges faced by people in need,” she said.
Ambassador Zena also stated that this is a timely opportunity for Turkey and other development partners to intensify their efforts in supporting Tanzanians in need, particularly during the holy seasons of Ramadan and Lent, so that the assistance provided can bring lasting benefits to communities.
For his part, the Turkish Ambassador to Tanzania, Dr Bëkir Gezër, said the event aimed to bring together Tanzanian graduates who studied in Turkey along with various stakeholders in order to strengthen academic and social cooperation.
He added that the gathering also sought to enhance networking among the alumni and institutions to promote collaboration in various development sectors.
