Nyumba ya Mungu Dam boundaries undergo change

QUEEN ISACK in Mwanga
THE Pangani Water Basin in Kilimanjaro Region has started resetting boundaries around Nyumba ya Mungu Dam to stop encroachment by nearby villagers.

A Water Officer with the authority, Mtoi Kanyawani, said the move was a result of a meeting held on May 23 this year by leaders of Kilimanjaro and Manyara regions. The authority has put beacons in all villages surrounding the dam as the previous ones have disappeared.
Implementation of the projects was delayed by lack of funds, Kanyawani said. “We are going to create awareness among the people on the importance of observing boundaries.
This dam has the tendency of widening and narrowing,” he said. A Hydrology Officer with the Basin, Brown Mwangaka, said the water level at the dam has this year decreased compared to last year.
