Saidi Meck Sadick, Dar es salaam Regional Commissioner
He made the statement in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday when addressing the Regional Consultative Council (RCC) during a meeting held at the RC’s office.
He said the meeting was meant to discuss the implementation of development projects in year 2013 and plans for the coming fiscal year.
Sadick said poor infrastructure has led into an increase in public complaints as people fail to access social services like education and water.
He also noted that street children are still a big challenge as the number keeps increasing.
“Garbage collection is also a serious problem in Dar es Salaam, despite the government’s effort to keep the city clean, there are still piles of garbage especially in highly populated areas like markets and bus stops,” he noted.
He also directed Auction Mart to stop disturbing and charging people for wrong parking in the city because the task is to be done collaboratively by three municipalities.
According to him, money collected by Auction Mart in terms of fines for wrong parking ends up in their own pockets and has never reached the city authority.
Among other things discussed in the meeting include education issues such as teachers’ demands whereas Ilala District Commissioner, Raymond Mushi said the government should pay teachers their arrears because the amount has now reached 1.1bn/-.
For his part, Ilala Member of Parliament, Musa Hassan Zungu advised the government to look for extra funds for the construction of teachers’ houses.
He further noted that the district has enough classes to accommodate all Form One students selected to join various secondary schools.
