THE late President John Pombe Magufuli lives on in the hearts of Tanzanians, his legacy shaping the nation’s development even five years after his death, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy Doto Biteko has said.
Biteko, who is also Mbogwe Member of Parliament for Mbogwe, the remarks today, March 17, 2026, while delivering greetings at the fifth-anniversary commemoration of Magufuli’s death, held at his home in Chato District, Geita Region.
“One very important truth is that, even though we no longer have him with us, Magufuli lives on in the hearts of Tanzanians. This is not by accident—it is because he did great work, respected Tanzania, and, most importantly, how he loved Tanzanians,” he said.
He added: “The major projects initiated by the late Magufuli have been rapidly advanced by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, ensuring that those he started are completed.”
“We will continue to pray for our beloved leader, and we keep praying for Mama Janeth Magufuli as we make this event a recurring reflection of what we have learned from him,” Biteko said, adding:
“I urge the people of Chato to continue honoring all the good lessons Magufuli taught us, and for all Tanzanians to live by them in practice.”
Meanwhile, retired Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Venance Mabeyo said the late Magufuli’s guidance continues to be respected and followed today.
“Many of these lessons we live by and continue to uphold, praying that Almighty God grants him eternal rest. We firmly believe that wherever he is, he continues to pray for our nation, for all the development projects he initiated, and for those he hoped would be carried forward,” he said.
He added: “May God continue to bless our current leaders so they can advance these projects and uplift all Tanzanians, turning our constant reflections and dreams into reality.”
