Biteko launches electric vehicle , UNDP office

DODOMA: THE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr Doto Biteko, launched electric vehicles on Friday as part of a broader plan to promote the use of clean energy in the country.The Deputy Premier also inaugurated the solar energy centre and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) offices in the capital city.

Dr Biteko commended UNDP for supporting government initiatives to promote the use of clean energy. He stated that the government is doing everything in its power to ensure there is an alternative clean energy source available to the majority of Tanzanians across the country.

“I would like to express the government’s gratitude to the European Union and UNDP for their support. The government is working hard to find affordable alternative clean energy sources for the majority of Tanzanians,” he noted.

He urged all stakeholders to make efforts to help the government achieve its goal of having 80 per cent of Tanzanians using clean energy by 2034.

On her part, the UNDP representative, Weyinmi Omanuli, praised the government for its efforts and plans to address people’s issues, including setting strategies and targets for using clean energy.

“I would like to commend the Tanzanian government for its good leadership that focuses on improving people’s lives in both social and economic aspects,” she said.

She added that the campaign and promotion of clean energy are clear evidence that the government values Tanzanians with low incomes.

The EU representative, Mr Cedric Marel, stated that the European Union is confident that the Tanzanian government, through the Ministry of Energy, is committed to bringing positive changes to its citizens by implementing various projects, including promoting the use of clean energy.

Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Rosemary Senyamule, said that the launch of electric vehicles demonstrates the government’s commitment and continuation of the campaign to promote the use of clean energy in the country.

“This is a continuation of the campaign to promote the use of clean energy, led by President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan,” she said.
