PM tips youth on agri opportunities

PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has encouraged Tanzanians particularly young people to

take advantage of opportunities available in the agriculture, livestock and fisheries to boost their individual income and country’s economy.

Elaborating, he noted that the government has invested a lot in the agricultural sector with the aim of transforming it, because it has multiple opportunities  for the youth to exploit.

The Premier made the remark on Thursday after visiting pavilions of various institutions at the ongoing Nanenane Agricultural Exhibition held at the national level in Mbeya Region.

“Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries are the areas that I would like Tanzanians particularly the youth to grab opportunities from, because they will boost both individual and national incomes,” he pointed out.

He further said that so far the country has reached a good stage, citing President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s increased budget for the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry Livestock and Fisheries.

“We as a country have reached a good stage, because our President  has increased the budget for these two dockets of agriculture and livestock and fisheries… the budget for this year 2023/24 is bigger compared to last year,  thus it will cover all crucial areas,” he added

The government increased its budget for the agricultural ministry from 294bn/- (2021/2022) to 970.7bn/- (2023/2024)-a record rise by 330 per cent since independence.

Moreover, Mr Majaliwa  urged  Ministers and  Regional Commissioners (RC) to implement the  directives issued recently by  the  Vice-President  Dr Philip Mpango, while opening the exhibitions in order to create more opportunities for young people, who will benefit including through the BBT youth programme.

Based on the BBT, the Prime minister urged the youth to make decisions to engage in agriculture, livestock and fishing activities, while insisting on those who are currently undertaking the activities to stick to their respective  areas.

“The ruling party manifesto CCM instructed this government to make sure that it performs everything possible to ensure that every Tanzanian enters the production sector, and this exhibition shows that opportunity,” he emphasised.

” The exhibitions have  showcased a number technologies including modern agricultural machines, breeding and fishing  are all here, these exhibitions have great benefits for us and I encourage them to come to these exhibitions.” he said.

On Tuesday Vice-President Dr Mpango officiated the exhibition in Mbeya Region and reiterated the government’s commitment to develop further the agricultural, fisheries and livestock sectors to increase production, productivity and value of products in the country.
