President Uhuru Kenyatta has absolved himself of blame for the lockdown in five zoned counties.

Addressing the press at State House Nairobi, President Uhuru said the directive was a result of recommendations issued by health experts following the spike in coronavirus infections in the country. On the ongoing vaccination exercise, Uhuru admitted that there is a global problem with the supply chain of the vaccine.

“We have not locked down the economy, we have locked down super spreaders areas. That is why bars and churches are closed down. We will do everything we can to return everything back to normal. However, you too have a big role to play, including urging those who are most vulnerable to get vaccinated,” said Uhuru.

ODM leader Raila Odinga, who earlier accompanied Uhuru on an impromptu tour of Nairobi and Kajiado Counties, said he will organize a public vaccination exercise.

“I will personally organize to do a public vaccination so that people can see that I have confidence in the process,” said Odinga.

Opening up about his battle with Covid-19, Odinga said, “I have been sickly and admitted at the Nairobi Hospital for one week before being allowed to recuperate at home for the last two weeks.”
