IRINGA Regional Commissioner (RC), Ally Hapi has pledged to collaborate with RCs in the Southern Highlands to market tourism in the southern parts of the country, in spirited efforts to support President John Magufuli’s ambitious drive in the region.

Mr Hapi said he will support all the prior tourism efforts made by his predecessor, Amina Masenza especially on the much touted Southern Circuit Tourism Exhibition 2018 scheduled to take place between September 26 and 30, 2018.
The Iringa RC elaborated his plans this week when he paid a courtesy call to Capital Plus International (CPI) Offices in Dar es Salaam. CPI is partnering with the office of the Iringa RC and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism to organise the envisaged exhibitions which have so far been running for three consecutive years.
“We wish to see people from Tanzania and outside the country come and witness the exhibitions as well as visiting various tourism sites, including spotting various investment opportunities in the Southern Highlands,’’ he said.
The Southern Highlands is well known to have several unique national parks, including the Ruaha National Park which is famously known to have several kinds of elephants and other animals as well as Kitulo National Park which has unique flowers that are not found anywhere in the world.
Udzungwa National Park, also found in the region, has unique species including the Kihansi Frogs. The RC further insisted that Iringa region which is coordinating the exhibitions will collaborate with neighbouring regions of Mbeya, Songwe, Ruvuma, Rukwa and Katavi as well as the private sector and the international community in marketing tourism.
“Apart from national parks and other attractions, our region is equally endowed with historical attraction, where it is in the public knowledge that the region through Chief Mkwawa was at the fore front in fighting against the German colonial rule,’’ he said adding: “I believe in collaboration with our Germany counterparts, we can be able to receive more tourists who are anxious to know the history of the region and how Chief Mkwawa managed to kick out colonialists in the region.’’
Elaborating further on the exhibitions, CPI coordinator, Mr Clement Mshana said preparations were at an advanced stage and that what was going on now was to look for more stakeholders who will participate in the exhibitions, especially from the government, private sector and other international organisations.
“Other activities will include Southern Circuit Golf Challenge, Southern Circuit tourism symposium, Utalii cycling challenge, marathon and traditional dances,’’ he said, adding that there will also be a symposium to discuss tourism and economic issues scheduled to take place on September 27, 2018,’’ he said.
Mr Mshana added that special transport had been put in place to take people who are willing to visit various tourist attractions, requesting many people to turn up in bigger numbers to witness the exhibitions.
