THE Minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Ms Ummy Mwalimu has called upon parents and guardians to cooperate with teachers to improve the academic performance of their children instead of putting blame on education stakeholders.

She said that the move will help the children to attain their academic goals and cut down early marriages which have been shutting down girls’ dreams.
The Minister was speaking in Tanga yesterday during a cer- emony to hand over 40 desks to Toledo Secondary School in the region.
Ms Mwalimu, who is a Spe- cial Seats Member of Parliament in Tanga Region, said that parents are supposed to cooperate with teachers because it will help to improve the academic performance of their children, thus stopping them from en- gaging in other behaviours that may affect their studies.
“Parents should recognise their role and make follow ups on the academic development of their children, because it is the only way you can cooperate with teachers to help the children realise their dreams,” she said.
On his part, Tanga District Commissioner, Mr Thobias Mwilapwa, called upon stu- dents to study hard in order to attain the government target of increasing pass rates in all pub- lic schools.
“The Minister has donated desks to our school, you should use them well so that you can attain your targets of increasing the pass rate,” he said.
Toledo Secondary School Headmaster, Daudi Nchia, commended the minister for the donation, although the school was facing myriads of challenges, including shortage of pit latrines
