THE Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Luhaga
Mpina, has announced sweeping changes in the Lake Zone’s livestock and
fisheries sectors, among them establishing a crossbreeding centre in the
area.
The Minister announced the new development in Bariadi District, Simiyu Region insisting that despite having many livestock in Mara, Simiyu and Shinyanga regions, the lake zone lacked a special area for selling the animals thus ordering that an improved and huge livestock market be established in Bariadi, to equally improve revenue collection in the area.
Mr Mpina expressed the government’s commitment to establish a crossbreeding centre in Bariadi District so as to help pastoralists in the area to have variety of species and eventually have enough meat production in the country, in an effort to realise the country’s industrialisation agenda.
Mr Mpina who doubles as Kisesa MP (CCM), asked residents in the Lake Zone to grab the various investment opportunities in the livestock and fishing sectors, so as to put up projects that will help them get out of poverty.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Professor Elisante Ole Gabriel, said he will fully implement the directives by the Minister to revolutionalise agriculture, fisheries and livestock sectors.
Bariadi District Commissioner, Festo Kiswaga said the just concluded Nane Nane exhibitions in Bariadi District had helped farmers in changing their farming methods through improved technology.
