PARLIAMENTARY budget committee has said it’s pleased with services offered by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in coordination and issuance of official statistics in the country.
The committee’s chairperson, Ms Hawa Ghasia, speaking here during a committee’s visit to the
bureau’s headquarters over the weekend, said NBS has demonstrated professionalism in carrying out its activities.
“We’re satisfied with the good services provided by NBS in coordinating official statistics,” said the committee’s chairlady during the visit.
Ms Ghasia urged NBS to provide Members of Parliament with various statistics to facilitate them in carrying out their duties in the house and in their constituencies.
“When the MPs are equipped with accurate statistics, they are in good position to argue in the parliament for the government to take action,” she observed, adding that NBS was an important institution, which provides the government with clear picture of various services and feedback on the services.
On her part, NBS Director General, Dr Albina Chuwa, attributed the great achievements to good cooperation between the government and wananchi.
“We’re grateful to the committee for having time to visit our offices. We will continue ensuring that the government gets accurate and official statistics timely to facilitate development programmes,” said the NBS boss.
She pointed out that statistics were vital for implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Five Year Development Plan (FYDP).
