SYLIVESTER DOMASA in Dodoma
THE
government has issued a two-week ultimatum to all newly appointed
teachers to report to their workstations or forfeit their offers of
joining the pool of civil servants.
According
to a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the
President (Regional Administration and Local Government), there are over
5,000 other qualified teachers who were not
lucky enough to be selected
for the purpose.
“All
those who have been selected to either join public primary or secondary
schools are required to report to the District Executive Director and
subsequently their respective schools from July 23, this year.
The final reporting date is August 7,” reads part of the statement issued in Dodoma, yesterday.
The
government warned that it will institute stern actions over authorities
who would allow some teachers to remain in urban areas whilst their
working stations are in rural areas.
It
said any teacher who receives reporting allowances and leaves their
workstation as per selection will face the wrath of the law.
Minister
of State in the Office of the President Regional Administration and
Local Governments, Mr Suleiman Jafo announced 4,840 new teaching jobs
for primary and secondary teachers across the country.
The
Minister categorically, requested all new appointees to present their
original academic certificates including their secondary school
certification as well as their birth certificates at the council
director where the school is located.
A
statement issued yesterday emphasises that all the teachers should
report at the school and must stay at the school but not at the council
headquarters.
Apparently, the government said there will be no transfers or exchange of working stations as it had been applied in the past.
The
Permanent Secretary, Eng Mussa Iyombe, meanwhile instructed all council
directors to present a written report by August 10 about all the fresh
teachers who had reported to make appropriate decision including
replacing those who had defied the government order.
