Tanzania:Land, business formalisation to cost 850m/-

By ABELA MSIKULA
Property and Business Formalization Programme (MKURABITA) is set to run land resources and business formalization evaluation survey at a cost of 850m/-.

The idea came after previous research results showed growth in the Domestic Gross Products (DGP) and at the same time a rise in the rate of poverty among individuals.
Latest (2005) findings showed that 89 percent of land resources and 98 percent businesses are owned out of the formal system, said the Programme Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ms Serapia Mgembe.
Research activities are set to take off this month wherein results will be out in June. It will involve 620 enumeration areas - mainland and Zanzibar, identified in the 2012 census, according to MKURABITA boss.
"We are going to interview household members, observing where the difference comes from because national and individual economic growth rate should be equal,” she said.
