South Nyanza Sugar Company (SonySugar) is seeking to fill the
position of chief executive, a post currently being held in an acting
capacity by Benard Otieno.
Mr Otieno was brought in to
stand in for Jane Pamela Odhiambo who was sent for a compulsory leave
early this year over alleged theft of sugar worth millions of shillings.
This comes as the miller is facing difficult times ahead as cane shortage and financial distress continue to bite.
“The
position calls for high-level maturity and ability to effectively
interact and operate at management and Board level to realise
SonySugar’s vision,” said Sony’s chairman Ambrose Weda.
“The
Board of SonySugar wishes to recruit a qualified experienced, dynamic,
visionary, dedicated, innovative and pragmatic leader to fill the
position.”
After
Ms Odhiambo’s exit, the State-owned sugar miller has been keen on
reducing financial mismanagement and looting at all stages of
production.
It is among five other State-owned millers that are set for
privatisation. The others are Muhoroni, Chemelil, Nzoia Sugar Company
and Miwani.
Privatisation plans started back in 2014 as a move to save the millers from downfall.
