FORMER Cabinet Minister, Prof Mark Mwandosya has advised students at Nyasa Lake Shore Secondary School in Kyela District to focus on science subjects, so as to cope with changes in technology across the world.

Prof Mwandosya, who is also the Chancellor for Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST), said students needed to work hard and make right decisions so that they could serve the nation in various areas of expertise.
He was accompanied by MUST Vice-Chancellor, Prof Emanuel Luoga, Dr Lusajo Minga, Mr Joseph Mhiru and other officials. The MUST officials visited the school to encourage and ask students to study science subjects.
“The idea here is all about making right decisions, MUST officials and me are here to encourage and tell you that everything is possible; you can do more than us, it’s a matter of making right decisions,” said Prof Mwandosya.
He asked students to consider him as a role model and make sure they record high performance in final examinations. “I want you to use us as your role models, and I would like to see you doing better than us; we are vivid examples in this area,” he said.
The retired Rungwe MP insisted that there is no magic in tackling science subjects and instead students need to study hard, maintain discipline in all aspects including punctuality as well as making right decisions at the right time.
He added, “If we managed to study science subjects, it is obvious you can even do better than us.” Earlier, MUST Vice Chancellor, Prof Luoga said that as the government strives to build and revive industries across the country, it is obvious the demand for scientists is high in the country.
“We are here to encourage you and ask you to study and concentrate on science subjects, this country needs more scientists due to the ongoing changes in the application of technology and economic growth basing on industrial development,” he said.
The MUST’s director of progressive education, Dr Lusajo Minga, asked youth across the country to make right decisions at the right time. She said students should consider science subjects simple and understandable, just like any other subject at school.
Earlier, Nyasa Lake Shore Secondary School Headmaster, Mr Lusajo Mwakitalima said his school has been recording good performance amid various challenges and thus asked for support from both the government and education stakeholders to improve the situation.
