State trophies land 2 in court

A traditional healer from Majimoto Village in Mlele District, Katavi Region, Kambona Nkana, alias Kilosa (48), appeared before Mlele District Court magistrate Teotimus Swai at the weekend, charged with illegal possession of government trophies valued at over 2.6m/.

Prosecuting, Inspector of Police Bakari Hongoli told the court that the suspect committed the crime on July 6, this year, in his household in the village.
Elaborating, he said Nkana was arrested after being found with a mule’s tail worth 1.4m/and a leg of an owl valued at 248,000/-, both of which were part of his paraphernalia.
The suspect was not allowed to enter into a plea as only the high court is mandated to hear cases related to economic sabotage, which are also un-bailable. Mr Swai adjoined the case until August 4, when it will come up again for mention.
A resident of Mirumba Village in Mlele District, Katavi Region, Jacob Maliselo (34), appeared in the same court, over illegal possession of a government trophy valued at over 22.3m/-.
According to the prosecution, the suspect was found with part of the body of an elephant weighing 25 kilogrammes, and worth over 22.3m/-, without a permit. Mr Swai adjoined the case until August 9, this year when it will come up again for mention.
Earlier, prosecuting , Inspector of Police, Mr Bakari Hongoli charged before the court that the suspect was red handed caught in possession of carcass of elephant weighing 25 kgs valued over 22.3m/- with permit.
