URBAN West Regional Commissioner (RC) Ayoub Mohamed Mahmoud and Commissioner General of the Drugs Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA) Rogers Sianga have reiterated the government commitment to fiercely fight against drugs.
Speaking to reporters here yesterday
about the ongoing nationwide crackdown on narcotics, Mr Mahmoud said the
region has been a hub for drugs in Zanzibar, accusing some security
officers of dealing in the illegal business.
“We have reviewed our strategies,
identified many people linked to the illegal business, including fifteen
police officers who aid the drug barons, they will definitely face the
wrath of the law,” said the RC.
He said the regional authority has
identified chronic spots in the region for the illegal business,
appealing to members of the public, especially parents, to join in the
war that seeks to transform Zanzibar and Tanzania in general, drug free.
Mr Sianga who also attended the meeting,
reiterated his statement that will be no ‘heaven’ for drug dealers in
the Tanzania because, “We are determined to end the social menace.”
He said, “It does not matter who you
are, it does not matter how much money you have, it does not matter how
much power you wield, it does not matter how much political clout you
have, we will squarely deal with all drug abusers and dealers the
country.
