Turkish president expected in Dar tomorrow

TURKISH President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to arrive in the country tomorrow in the evening for a twoday state visit under President John Magufuli invitation.

Mr Erdogan who will be accompanied by his wife alongside his entourage including Ministers, Members of Parliament, government officials and business people, will arrive at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) and will be received by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa.
In a statement released yesterday in Dar es Salaam by the government Communication Unit in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, the aim of the visit is to cement the bilateral relationship between Turkey and Tanzania and expand the investment opportunities on business and investments sectors. During the first-day of the visit, President Erdogan will hold private talks with President Magufuli before a meeting that would involve associates from both sides.
According to the statement, the two presidents would later hold and witness the signing of bilateral agreements on various development areas.
On the second-day of the visit, the two presidents will officiate a business forum that would bring together business people from both Turkey and Tanzania.
Later President Erdogan and his associates will go for a state-banquet at the State House.
Commenting on the bilateral relationship between Tanzania and Turkey, the statement said, the resetting of Turkey’s embassy in Tanzania 2009 has since strengthened the relations.
“Since that time (2009), we have witnessed several state visits between the countries that develop and strengthen the relationship,” reads the statement.
In 2009, former President of Turkey Abdullah Gul visited Tanzania in 2010 and whereas former president of Tanzania, Mr Jakaya Kikwete also visited Turkey and President of Zanzibar Ali Mohamed Shein also visited Turkey in 2011.
The government has also announced to open an embassy in Turkey as President Magufuli swore-in the elected Ambassador, Prof Elizabeth Kiondo, who will represent the country in Turkey.
Tanzania and Turkey also had a long standing relationship through the commission of business that was initiated in 2011 after signing an agreement on business relationship between the two countries.
The trade relationship has since led to many benefits and development between the two countries including the strengthening of relationship in aviation sector with Turkish airline launching direct flights from Istanbul to Dar es Salaa, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar.
The launch of the flights has seen growth of trade between Turkey and Tanzania leading to growth of 66 million US dollars (145.2b/-) to February 2016.
The inaugural of the Turkey and Tanzania business commission in 2013 that help in enhancing private sectors in the two countries has also enabled over 30 Turkish business companies set an investment of 305.08 million US dollars creating some 2,959 jobs
