Shein mourns head of TPDF Nyuki Brigade

PRESIDENT Ali Mohamed Shein has expressed his condolences to the Chief of Defence Forces of the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) and the family of Brigadier General Cyril Ivor Mhaiki who died on Wednesday.

The late Mhaiki, who was heading one of the forces in Zanzibar (Nyuki Brigade), died in Dar es Salaam at the Lugalo Military Hospital where he was undergoing treatment. “It is with a deep sense of sadness that I have learned of the passing away of Mhaiki who had served the army with commitment.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family‚ friends and colleagues in the army‚” said Dr Shein. Zanzibar asked the Chief of Defence Forces (Mr Mwamunyange) to convey their condolences to the deceased’s family and pray for patience at this difficult time.
Meanwhile, President Shein yesterday chaired a one-day meeting of the ‘special Committee of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM)’s National council here to discuss and approve the name of the party’s flag bearers in the Dimani by-election to be held on January 22, next year.
According to the communiqué after the meeting held at the Kisiwandui CCM- sub offices, Mr Juma Ali Juma was endorsed to contest on the party ticket after wining interparty opinion polls. Other political parties were yet to announce their candidates by yesterday. The nomination day is on December 22, this year.
