Magufuli revokes DCI Athuman appointment

PRESIDENT John Magufuli has revoked the appointment of the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mr Diwani Athuman.

A statement released today by State House Director of Communications, Gerson Msigwa, stated that Dr Magufuli’s decision was announced by Chief Secretary (CS), John Kijazi.
The statement said that Mr Athuman’s post was revoked with effect from October 29, this year. It added that Mr Athuman will be assigned other duties.
However, the statement did not clarify categorically the reasons behind the removal of Mr Athuman from the post.
Moreover, Mr Kijazi said the head of state will fill the position later. Mr Athuman was appointed DCI by former President Jakaya Kikwete in May, 2015. Before the appointment, Mr Athuman was the Deputy DCI and at the same time acting as the DCI.
He took over from Isaya Mngulu who retired from service after clocking the retirement age according to law. Before acting DCI post, Mr Athuman served as Mbeya Regional Police Commander (RPC).
