Addressing reporters in Dar es Salaam
yesterday, the Minister for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr Charles
Mwijage, said the industrial exhibition would give a broad picture on
performance of the industrial sector for the past year since the fifth
phase government came to power.
“To mark one year of the fifth phase
government, on December the Ministry is organising industrial
exhibition, among other programmes, citizens will be able to know the
efforts of the fifth phase government since it took over last year,”
elaborated the minister.
According to him, so far more than 3,800
industries have been built within a period of one year, adding
Tanzanians should prefer using local products produced in the country.
However, Mr Mwijage advised local producers to adhere to quality to meet
demands of the local market and compete in international markets.
To make sure local industries are
protected, the minister assured investors that the ministry is
strengthening border and port inspections to make sure no sub-standard
goods enter into the market.
“As the Minister for Trade I am
responsible to protect both consumers and local producers in the
country, I want to assure both of them that the Ministry together with
other ministries we are intensifying border patrol and inspections to
make sure sub-standard goods do not cross our boundaries,” he explained.
With the theme “Tanzania now we are building Industries,” Mr Mwijage urged youth to have desire of building industries.
“Regional Commissioners (RCs) will
describe various investment opportunities available in their regions, I
called also upon youth to have desire to build industries, there will be
expertise from the ministry to mentor youth on how to start up an
industry,” he said.
