CONSTRUCTION of a flyover from Coco Beach passing Indian Ocean to the Aga Khan Hospital to ease traffic congestion in the city centre set to start June next year, President John Magufuli has affirmed.
Dr Magufuli noted today at the State
House in Dar es Salaam that the construction would be complete in 2020,
according to statement by the Directorate of Presidential
Communications.
He said currently the government is the process of securing funds for the project from the Exim Bank of Korea.
In September last year, the government
signed a 91.032 million US dollars (154.39bn/-) deal with the Bank that
will involve the construction of the 1.03km flyover crossing the Indian
Ocean and seven kilometre road to connect the central business district
region and Msasani area.
President Magufuli’s assurance on the
start of the project came after he held talks with Korean Ambassador to
Tanzania, Mr Song Geum-Young, who visited him.
“Plans to set up the Selander bridge
flyover is going on well as now the Korean company that conducts
feasibility study is at the final stages. Tenders for getting
contractors for the job would be announced in March next year and the
exercise would be done speedily so that the construction could start in
June.
The good thing is that the Exim Bank has already given all required funds,” he said.
Meanwhile, President Magufuli commended
Former President Jakaya Kikwete for the efforts he did in enabling the
building of Mloganzila hospital on funding from Korea, noting that the
hospital would be a state-of-the art in East African region.
He said the construction of the hospital
is expected to be complicated before the end of this year and that
about 100 professional doctors who went through training in Korea are
already in the country to provide service that hospital.
President Magufuli, who affirmed his
government’s commitment to open up Embassy in Korea, promised to
strengthen relations and cooperation between the two countries.
Korean ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Song
Geum-Young gave his condolences to President Magufuli over recent
earthquake in Kagera, promising that his country would deploy experts
into Tanzania to see how they could support on the aftermath of the
tremor.
In the meantime, President Magufuli met
and held talks with Russian Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Yuri Popov. The
