Poor children get presidential treat

President John Magufuli has given presents worth 6.4m/- to 14 centres for vulnerable children who live in difficult conditions and the elderly to enable them celebrate Idd el-Hajj on Monday.

Idd el-Hajj is the highest point of the holy season when Muslims go on a pilgrimage to Mecca.
Speaking during the presentation function in Dar es Salaam today, the Deputy Commissioner of the Social Welfare Department, Ms Rabikira Mushi, said the presents have been given to 12 centres on the Mainland and two in Zanzibar.
“The president has doled out gifts for the elderly and vulnerable children to enable them to join fellow Tanzanians in enjoying the festival,” said the deputy commissioner, who handed over the presents on behalf of the Head of the State.
She mentioned some of the centres as Kurasini Orphanage, Upanga Children's Remand Centre, Furaha Arch Diocese of dare s salaam village and Dar al arqum International Islamic Relief organization.
Others are Mabaoni Chakechake Centre in Pemba, Seblen Home for the Elderly in Unguja, Irambo Discipline School in Mbeya, Bukumbi Home for the Elderly in Misungwi, Sukamahela Home for the Elderly in Manyoni and Kibirizi Home for the Elderly in Kigoma.
Ms Mushi mentioned other homes for the elderly as Nyabange in Musoma, Chazi in Morogoro, Ngehe in Ruvuma and Nandanga in Masasi.
Ms Zuwena Mziray, who is the Kurasini Orphanage Centre Caretarker, thanked the president for the presents.
“We wish the president would continue with the same spirit.
We also wish that others will emulate the president in remembering people who live in difficult conditions in such happy days,” said Ms Deus whose centre was one of the beneficiaries.
