Suspected Al-Shabaab militants attacked Diff Police Station in Wajir County at 1.30am on Saturday.
Wajir County Commissioner Michael Ole Tialal said one policeman was injured as Kenyan officers fought back and repulsed the more than 150 militants.
Mr Tialal said at least three Al-Shabaab attackers could have been injured or killed during the raid.
He said the militia had come in seven vehicles, four Land Cruisers, two Toyota Probox and a lorry.
He could not, however, confirm earlier reports that the militia had looted the police station's armoury.
TEAM DISPATCHED
He said a team had been dispatched from Wajir Town at 5am to visit the police camp and verify the claims.
The station lies along the Kenya-Somalia border.
Mr Tialal said the militia disappeared deep into Somalia and the Kenya Defence Force soldiers across the border had been notified to pursue them.
This is the second time Diff Police Station has been attacked by Al-Shabaab this year
