Young HIV/AIDS victims support mooted

A FUNDRAISING event is organized to help the community of young victims of HIV/AIDS aged 9 to 23 as the community social responsibility.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Pharmacist/Public Health Specialist and a licensed Zumba Fitness Instructor, Ms Nasra N. Kondo, said they have set an entry fee of Tsh 10,000 for adults and 5,000/- for children in order to make this event succeed.
“For a give back to community, we are organising a Zumbathon fundraising event for HIV/AIDS Muhimbili Youth Club. We are kindly asking for a large number participation in achieving this mission together,” said Kondo.
She also said she will run the Zumba Fitness class during the day of event. However, all sales made from the tickets will be donated to the club. Muhimbili Youth Club is a non-registered organisation comprising of kids aged between 9 to 23 years old who are living with HIV/AIDS.
Majority of these kids are raised by single remaining parent and/or guardians. Nasra said: “This group of adolescents is connected with the fact that is all collecting their ARVs medications from Muhimbili National Hospital.
The group was started with the aim of keeping them together, get them to share their experiences and supporting each other on issues such as importance of drug adherence, well balanced diets and boosting their self esteem.
The group was formed in 2011 beginning with one child of which to date has more than 120 children. When collecting their medication last Thursday of the month, they get an opportunity to freely discuss issues around them including drug adherence, challenges living as a HIV positive children and being educated on self awareness.
On the days of meetings, have wellwishers put money together helping them with food for the day and bus fares. As a public health specialist and a Zumba Fitness Instructor, she has decided to help raising funds for this specific group in order to strengthening their solidarity and improvements of their health.
This group aims at encouraging the club to run independently, assisting them by sharing experiences and skills that they can grow. All the funds collected from the ticket sales will be used to fund club mission on starting their own Art and craft projects, enhancing their talents trainings as requested by themselves.
The project will give them opportunities to make pictures and selling them hence become independent
