StanChart wins key Africa Banker Award

DAILY NEWS Reporter
STANDARD Chartered Bank Tanzania Limited has won the Best Customer Service Award from the Banker Africa. This achievement was announced at a gala dinner event held in Nairobi last week.

The Africa Banker Awards are aimed at identifying and rewarding excellence in financial services each year. This year’s awards were a result of more than 23,500 votes cast by the financial services community in East Africa, the largest number in the three year history of the Banker Africa East Africa Awards.
Speaking on receiving the award, the Bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Sanjay Rughani, thanked the Bank’s clients and the financial services community in East Africa for their vote of confidence to the bank and said the bank has been focusing its efforts towards customer service and a number of initiatives have been taken internally to sensitise the Bank’s staff on meeting and exceeding customer expectations.
“Our staff have gone through various training initiatives such as the ‘SCB Way’ and it is great to note that our investment in enhancing customer service has yielded positive results, making us lead in Customer Service in Tanzania.” Mr Rughani said.
He also added that, coupled with enhancing the human aspect of service, the Bank has continuously invested in enhancing its channels, mainly online and mobile banking. In March last year, the Bank introduced the Mobile Wallet payment service for corporate customers in Tanzania.
The service, which is provided using M-PESA and TigoPesa platforms, enables Corporate customers to transact in bulk directly from their Bank accounts at Standard Chartered.
“Our award winning online and mobile banking platforms also continue to differentiate our services and we will invest further to enhance our capabilities on the platforms.” Mr Rughani said.
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of CPI Financial, Robin Amlot, said, “We aim to promote best practice and offer recognition to the key players working to help create a prosperous diversified future for the region’s economies.
Winning one of our Awards reflects the opinion of the financial services industry across the region and our winners may be justly proud of their achievements and that their peers see them as market-leaders.”
The Banker Africa Awards are continent-wide programmes open to all banks and financial institutions in Africa. The aim of the Awards programme, split into four individual regions (North Africa, East Africa, West Africa and Southern Africa), is to recognise outstanding performance and excellence in the financial services industry
