Shein warns against hate speech

ISSA YUSSUF in Zanzibar
PRESIDENT Ali Mohamed Sheen has warned that any leader who incites or engages in hate speeches will face the full wrath of the law.

Dr Shein issued the warning in Pemba yesterday after visiting some of the torched houses and properties and comforting victims of ongoing hate-related incidents. “We need to maintain peace and stability in the islands.
I hereby instruct the police and the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) to handle cases related to these incidents carefully but in a swift way,” said Dr Shein. He said law enforcers should work closely to ensure that all those behind the hate and discrimination in Zanzibar face the law so that the grieving people get justice.
President Shein said : “Any leader or person who promotes hatred and violence should know that he/she will not be spared without regard to his/her position. Elections are over, let us concentrate on peaceful nation building initiatives.”
The president said it is a shame upon leaders who incite people and lead the public to hate each other.
He called on people to unite against the few people promoting divisions. He also said that biased traders and vessel operators providing services along party lines should have their licences revoked
