DAR ES SALAAM’S Ilala Municipal have fined some high-rise building owners for breaching construction permits and failed to incorporate parking lots within the structures.
The Dar Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr
Paul Makonda said today during the opening of the longest and widest
cable-stay bridge in East Africa—Kigamboni saying that so far the
municipal fines have reached 3.0bn/-.
“Ilala has heralded my directive
well. The permits clearly showed that the building should have parking
lots but they were built against specifications,” Mr Makonda said.
Fortnight ago the RC directed all
high-rise building owners who have breached their permits to either
demolish their buildings, paying fines or showing alternative ways of
parking.
Most high-rise buildings are located in Ilala municipality that controls central business district (CBD).
