THE Minister of Land, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Mr William Lukuvi, has pledged to help people who were not given their plots of land despite remitting payments in various municipal councils countrywide before June, this year.
Mr Lukuvi made the remarks in Dar es
Salaam yesterday during a familiarization tour of the Members of the
Parliamentary Committee on Lands, Natural Resources and Tourism at the
ministry’s customer service centre.
“There are about 200 people whose plots
of land were faulted by double allocations and because the fraud was
committed by government officials, these people will be given other
plots before June, this year,” said Mr Lukuvi.
He directed all the councils to take
note and ensure that all victims in this aspect are given alternative
plots of land because the government received their money.
He added that responsible officials have
been taken to task. Commenting on the service delivery centre, the
minister said that it had improved service delivery and relieved people
from having to go through a long process to obtain their title deeds.
Since its establishment in November,
last year to date the service delivery centre has served more than
30,000 people in the region and are currently in the process of setting
up an Integrated Land Management Information System.
“The system will simplify the process of
registering land allocations and issuing title deeds throughout the
country,” noted the minister.
According to the Chairman of the
Committee, Eng Atashasta Nditiye, the country was still facing the
challenge of land conflicts and required that more efforts be made to
overcome the problems.
“A good system should be put in place in
the supervision of land allocation by various state organs in order to
avoid double allocation,” said Eng Nditiye.
A member of the Committee, Ms Silafi
Maufi, a special seat Member of Parliament from Rukwa, called upon the
ministry to extend the centre’s services to other parts of the country.
