The Tourism Finance Corporation (TFC) formerly Kenya Tourist Development Corporation has received global recognition for its role in financing the development of the tourism sector in the country.
TFC received the International Quality Crown Award from United Kingdom-based firm BID Group One last week for being the leading developmental financial institution in the country that is offering affordable facilities in the tourism sector.
BID Group One aims at promoting quality culture by recognising companies and organisation worldwide that promote excellence and innovation through implementing quality, with most of the companies that have received their awards being in the Fortune 500.
Speaking to the Business Daily, TFC’s chief executive Maryanne Ndegwa-Jordan said that the award was appreciation of the effort and hard work put into reviving the corporation especially with investors the agency had worked with and helped finance.
“When we first got the call we thought it was a hoax and had to do a bit of research, though they told us the nomination process was confidential, but we were nominated and had won,” she explained.
Ms Jordan noted that the award coming at a time when the tourism sector was grappling from the effects of insecurity was a good show of confidence for the sector’s recovery.
“This is a developing economy we have a long way to go to achieve our potential and the war on terror is global, if we shy away from investing the terrorists continue winning,” she said
