In Summary
  • Islands around the lake offer superior quality accommodation and holiday activities.

You can call it Port Florence if you embrace nostalgia. That’s what the British explorers called it when they discovered it in 1901, an alternative railway terminus and port for the Uganda railway.
Kisumu is actually corrupted from the word “kisuma” which is to trade; “Kisumo” is a trading post.
Kisumu remains unexplored, even though its one of the more vibrant circuits in the region, harbouring some of Kenya’s better kept secrets.
Undecided on how to spend the holidays? You should consider checking out the properties below this festive season.
Like they say in Dho’Luo; “Oruak’u” (You are welcome).
IMPALA ECO-LODGE
It’s located right at the shores of Lake Victoria, in the lush protected ecosystem of the Impala Sanctuary. There you are caught between bush and the lake.
The rooms are luxury-tented camps, all overlooking the lake. It’s quiet. Spend evenings on their jetty, sipping cocktails and smelling the mystery of the lake.
