Five leaders allied to the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) were on Monday at a Nairobi police station to record statements over alleged hate speech.

Senators James Orengo (Siaya) and Elizabeth Ongoro (nominated) together with MP Junet Mohammed (Suna East) arrived at Kilimani Police Station at around 12pm.
They were later joined by MPs Jakoyo Midiwo (Gem) and Simba Arati (Dagoretti North).
This follows a directive by the office of the Director of Public Prosecution on June 20. (READ: Top politicians face arrest over hate talk)
Senators Hassan Omar (Mombasa), Johnstone Muthama (Machakos), Boni Khalwale (Kakamega) and MP Tom Kajwang (Ruaraka) were also summoned over alleged hate speech.
Cord leader Raila Odinga has termed the move as a ploy by the government to intimidate and silence the Opposition. (READ: Hate speech summons a ploy to silence Cord)
Mombasa County women representative Mishi Mboko is expected to plead to hate speech-related charges on Monday next week.
The court deferred her plea taking after it emerged that she was out of the country.
Ms Mboko is alleged to have uttered words which according to the police amount to incitement to violence and disobedience of law contrary to Section 91(1) of the penal code. (READ: Arrest MP for hate speech, says Tobiko)
