The National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA) has reassured the public that the quality of secondary education in the country will be improved and will go hand in hand with recruitment of more teachers.

Education and Vocational Training deputy minister, Jenista Mhagama, made the announcement yesterday in Dar es Salaam when launching the performance analysis books for Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) based on the 2012/13 final examinations.

The books, which cover all subjects sat for form four nation examinations, have been prepared by NECTA and are aimed at articulating how the questions were formulated, challenges noted and explain why students failed or passed in a particular subject.

The books are to be distributed to all teachers, students and other stakeholders across the country.

“We have dedicated ourselves to improve the quality of education and passing rates of our secondary school students, especially those sitting for their final examinations,” she said.

Mhagama underscored that efforts are been done to ensure that the number of students that pass their final examinations is increased each year. She said improvements have already been registered in the 2012/13 form four final examinations where the number of students who passed increased from 40.08 percent in 2012 to 57.09 percent in 2013.

“Though there are a lot of challenges in the sector,” she said “…the government and other stakeholders are working to improve the sector for the betterment of our country,” she added.

She applauded NECTA for the tireless job they have done in preparing the performance analysis books and urged them to put in even more effort so that education quality is improved and public confidence restored.

NECTA Acting Executive Director, Dr Charles Msonde said the books will help teachers put more focused effort and tailor their teaching techniques for better results.

“The registered increase in number of students passing with good marks in their final examinations is the result of efforts by the government in collaboration with education stakeholders and we will continue to do more,” he pledged.
