President Uhuru Kenyatta has left the country for a three day official visit to Angola.
He
will attend the fifth Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government
of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) in
Luanda.
The plane carrying the President and his delegation left the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi shortly after 2pm.
With him are Cabinet Secretaries Amb Amina Mohamed (Foreign Affairs) and Amb Raychelle Omamo (Defence).
The
meeting will focus on the fight against terrorism in the region and
implementation of the pact on peace, security, stability and development
in the Great Lakes.
He was seen off by Deputy
President William Ruto, Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku,
Chief of Defence Forces Julius Karangi and other senior government
officials.
MEMBER STATES
The
summit serves as a legal framework and an agenda of the ICGLR with the
aim of creating the conditions for security, stability and development
between the member states and the region.
Twelve states
signatory to the pact include Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic
(CAR), Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya, Uganda,
Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia.
The theme of this year's summit is “Let’s promote peace, security, stability and development in the Great Lakes Region”.
During the summit, Angola will take up the ICGLR presidency from Uganda for a two-year period.
