Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) and Vodacom Tanzania PLC have signed a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the capabilities of retailers across Tanzania through the Retailer Development Programme (RDP), a capacity-building initiative designed to equip entrepreneurs with practical business, financial and digital skills for sustainable growth.
Operating under the slogan ‘Growing Innovatively Together’ (GRIT), the programme reflects a shared commitment by both organizations to support retailers, who play a critical role in Tanzania’s economy and in TBL’s value chain.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Neema Temba, Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs at TBL said the partnership demonstrates the value of collaboration in strengthening the capabilities of retailers and supporting their long-term growth.
"At TBL, our retailers are a critical part of our business ecosystem and an important driver of economic growth in our communities. Through this partnership with Vodacom Tanzania, we are investing in skills development, digital adoption and business sustainability ensuring that retailers are better equipped to grow their enterprises and seize new opportunities. By empowering retailers, we are creating shared value that benefits businesses, families and communities across Tanzania," she said.
The partnership brings together TBL’s extensive network of more than 26,000 retailers and Vodacom’s expertise in connectivity, digital innovation and mobile financial services to help businesses improve performance, resilience and long-term sustainability.
Through the programme, retailers will receive training in key areas including business management, financial and cash flow management, stock control, sales and marketing, customer service, entrepreneurship, responsible retailing and digital literacy. Participants will also gain access to relevant digital and financial solutions designed to improve business efficiency, profitability and customer engagement.
On his side, Director of Vodacom Business Nguvu Kamando, said the collaboration underscores Vodacom’s commitment to support Tanzania’s business community through innovation and technology.
"Small businesses are the backbone of Tanzania’s economy and by combining TBL’s strong retailer network with Vodacom’s digital capabilities and business solutions, we are providing retailers with practical tools, knowledge and technologies that can help them manage their businesses more efficiently, improve productivity and unlock new opportunities for sustainable growth. Together, we are accelerating digital and financial inclusion while helping entrepreneurs thrive in an increasingly connected economy," he said.
In addition to training, Vodacom will introduce retailers to relevant business and digital solutions, including SME Bomba, M-Wekeza, Lipa kwa M-Pesa and M-Koba, which are designed to support financial inclusion, business efficiency and digital transformation.
The partnership will also promote innovation, responsible business practices and entrepreneurship, while supporting continuous learning through a hybrid model that combines physical and digital training platforms. Both organizations will collaborate on programme communication, stakeholder engagement, monitoring and evaluation to ensure measurable and sustainable impact.
The first retailer development session under the programme is scheduled to take place in Mwanza, bringing together retailers from across the region for practical business, financial and digital skills training aimed at strengthening business performance and sustainable growth.
