Exim Bank Tanzania is marking its 29th anniversary under the theme "29 Years of Excellence in Action," celebrating nearly three decades of growth, customer relationships, partnerships and contribution to the communities it serves.
Established in 1997, Exim Bank Tanzania began its journey serving a small number of customers, steadily building its presence in the Tanzanian market from those humble beginnings. Over the past 29 years, the Bank has grown to become one of Tanzania's established financial institutions, with more than 30 branches across the country and a presence beyond Tanzania in markets including Comoros, Djibouti, Uganda and Ethiopia.
As part of this journey, Exim Bank became the first Tanzanian bank to open branches outside the country, marking an important milestone in the growth of a home-grown financial institution with ambitions beyond Tanzania.
The Bank's journey, however, has extended beyond providing financial services. Over the years, Exim Bank has invested in initiatives that contribute to the well-being and development of communities through its Exim Cares platform, with programmes spanning health, education, youth development, women's empowerment and environmental sustainability. These initiatives include longstanding support for blood donation, engagement with Young Scientists Tanzania (YST), the Women Empowerment Program, as well as various interventions supporting healthcare institutions and environmental conservation.
This year, the Bank is marking its anniversary differently by taking the milestone directly into the communities it serves. As part of the 29th anniversary celebrations, Exim Bank has been conducting community clean-up activities and donating cleaning equipment in selected locations across its branch network, including markets, hospitals and schools in various regions, with the aim of promoting clean, safe and healthy environments for the communities it serves.
In Dar es Salaam, the activities include the donation of cleaning equipment to Kinondoni Municipal Council and a community clean-up exercise at Kawe Beach, bringing together Exim Bank employees, stakeholders and members of the community to contribute to cleaner and healthier public spaces.
Speaking during the anniversary community activity, Head of Marketing and Communications at Exim Bank Tanzania, Mr. Stanley Kafu, said the 29th anniversary provides an opportunity to appreciate the people and communities that have been instrumental in the Bank's journey while reaffirming its commitment to creating greater value in the future.
"Our 29-year journey has been built together with our customers, employees, partners and the communities we serve. Every customer who has trusted us, every business we have supported and every partnership we have built has contributed to the institution Exim Bank is today. This anniversary is therefore not only about celebrating Exim Bank; it is about celebrating everyone who has been part of our journey," said Mr. Kafu.
He added that the decision to mark the anniversary through community activities reflects the Bank's belief that its purpose extends beyond financial services.
"We are marking the anniversary differently this year by translating the milestone into something meaningful for the communities around us. Environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility, and through these activities and the donation of cleaning equipment, we are contributing in a practical way while encouraging more people to take ownership of the spaces we all share. This is what Excellence in Action means, turning commitment into practical actions that create value for the communities around us," he said.
Speaking on behalf of the local community, Kawe Ward Councillor, Mr. Benard Fabian Malima, commended Exim Bank for choosing Kawe as one of the locations for its anniversary activities.
"On behalf of the residents of Kawe, I want to thank Exim Bank for this initiative. Kawe Beach is a space that many people in this community use daily, and keeping it clean is something that benefits all of us. The donation of cleaning equipment to our municipal council will go a long way in supporting our ongoing efforts to keep our environment clean, and we hope more institutions will follow this example," said Mr. Malima.
The community activities were conducted in selected locations across Exim Bank's network, allowing employees and stakeholders in different communities to participate in the anniversary initiative.
As Exim Bank looks towards its 30th year, the Bank remains committed to building on its 29-year journey by continuing to innovate, improve customer experiences, support businesses and create greater value for its customers, stakeholders and communities.
