DAR ES SALAAM: THE Dar es Salaam Regional Immigration Office has arrested 197 illegal immigrants from Malawi and Burundi during operations and patrols conducted in various parts of Dar es Salaam.
According to the Immigration Office, the arrests were made between September 4 and 14, 2026. Of those arrested, 102 are Malawian nationals and 95 are Burundian nationals.
The operations were conducted in several areas across the city, including Mwananyamala, Mbezi kwa Kakobe and Tandale in Kinondoni District; Keko, Mbagala and Tandika in Temeke District; as well as Ubungo and Kigamboni.
Addressing Immigration Officers, Inspectors and Immigration Officers involved in the arrest operations and investigation of cases, Dar es Salaam Regional Immigration Officer (SACI) Vincent Haule urged them to carry out their duties professionally, patriotically and in accordance with the law.
SACI Haule also commended the Immigration Offices in Kinondoni, Temeke, Ilala, Kigamboni and Ubungo districts for their efforts to address the challenge of irregular immigration.

He further stressed the importance of continuing to educate the public through the “Know Your Neighbour” campaign, which aims to raise public awareness of immigration matters.
According to Haule, the campaign also encourages members of the public to report individuals who enter or reside in the country without following the required legal procedures.
He said the public awareness efforts have continued to increase the understanding and participation of citizens and leaders at various levels in efforts to control irregular immigration and strengthen community security.
The Dar es Salaam Regional Immigration Office has urged members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement authorities by reporting suspected cases of irregular immigration, while ensuring that such information is submitted through official and secure channels.
