Tanzania eyes to upgrade service delivery at Tanga Port

 

TANGA: THE Tanzanian government is underway to construct three new berths with a combined length of 900 metres at Tanga Port, starting with a 300-metre berth, as part of efforts to further improve efficiency and service delivery at the facility.

This was revealed by the Tanga Port Manager, Salehe Mbega, when speaking to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Infrastructure that visited the port for inspection.

While at the port, the Committee commended the government for major infrastructure improvements at Tanga Port, saying the upgrades have significantly boosted efficiency in handling cargo and increased revenue collection.

Acting Committee Chairperson Joyce Ndalichako made the remarks today, March 13, 2026, after the committee visited and inspected the port’s modernization project.

According to the acting chairperson, during their inspection, they witnessed no delays or disruptions in cargo services, noting that the achievements are substantial and have increased revenue significantly.

Deputy Minister for Transport David Kihenzile thanked the committee for the visit while assuring them that all opinions, advice, and directives issued during the inspection would be worked on.

Speaking on behalf of the Director General of the Tanzania Ports Authority, Director of Planning, Quality and Risk Management Boniphace Nobeji said the authority values the strong support it receives from the government, which enables it to implement plans aimed at improving infrastructure and efficiency in ports across the country.

Earlier, Tanga Port Manager Salehe Mbega told the committee that the completed infrastructure upgrades have greatly improved cargo handling efficiency at the port, contributing to increased national revenue collections.
