
DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzanian government has intensified efforts to modernize transport infrastructure and maritime rescue services in a bid to enhance the safety of people and property while supporting sustainable national development.
Minister for Transport Prof Makame Mbarawa said the efforts are being implemented through government institutions responsible for regulating and managing maritime transport.
The minister made the statement in Dar es Salaam today, March 14, 2026, during a special Iftar event organised by the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) that brought together stakeholders from the maritime transport sector and called on maritime transport stakeholders to work closely with the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation and comply with the laws, regulations and procedures governing maritime activities to ensure the sector continues to grow and contribute to national development.

Additionally, he stressed the need for cooperation between the government and private sector stakeholders, noting that is crucial in improving maritime transport services, enhancing port efficiency and stimulating economic growth.
Moreover, he said that the government will continue strengthening transport infrastructure to ensure the maritime sector delivers the intended benefits to society and the nation at large.
Director General of the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation, Mohamed Salum, said the event aimed at strengthening unity, building relationships, and appreciating the cooperation between TASAC and stakeholders in the maritime sector.
