DAR ES SALAAM: A NEW initiative, Renewed Women Voices and Leadership, has been launched to equip women and youth with skills, resources and opportunities to lead and actively shape development in their communities.
The project aims to strengthen women’s participation in leadership, enhance the capacity of women-led organisations and ensure women’s voices are represented in decision-making processes.
Women Fund Tanzania Coordinator, Ms Rose Marandu, said the project will support about 60 to 70 youth-led institutions, enabling them to effectively manage stakeholder funds while building leadership capacity.
“As Tanzania advances toward Vision 2050, this project aligns with national priorities by ensuring women and youth are fully included in decision-making, leadership and economic activities,” she noted.
Ms Marandu noted further that resource management has long been a challenge, particularly for women-led organisations.

“We will support them with leadership training, funding and guidance to address key challenges facing their communities,” she said.
She stated that the initiative, launched in collaboration with CUSO International of Canada, is part of a five-year plan aimed at ensuring women actively participate in political, economic and social development from the local to the national level.
A representative from Msichana Initiatives, Ms Consolata Chikoti, thanked the project implementers including Women Fund Trust Tanzania and Tanzania Health Forum as well as international partners Global Affairs Canada and CUSO International for supporting the initiative.
She said the launch coincided with International Women’s Day, highlighting solidarity, investment and commitment to empowering women.
“Our theme today, ‘Give to Gain,’ reminds us that sustainable development is only possible when we invest in women,” Ms Chikoti said.
Project leader Ms Navina Mutabazi said the initiative will provide financial support to women-led organisations, strengthen institutional capacity and promote women’s leadership to ensure their inclusion in decisionmaking processes.
