traders who imported goods from a neighbouring country without paying the required duties.Kagera PCCB Regional Chief, Mr Vangsada Mkalimoto, disclosed the information yesterday while briefing journalists on the bureau’s quarterly report for October to December 2025.
He explained that on December 29 last year, PCCB, in collaboration with Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) officials at the Mutukula border, intercepted five vehicles carrying large consignments of goods entering the country illegally.
Among the seizures include a lorry (T525 DNU, trailer T811 DHA) carrying 30 tonnes of groundnuts and a lorry (T509 EDN) transporting 16 tonnes of groundnuts and 300 kilogrammes of beans.
Others are a lorry (T457 ELV, trailer T459 ELU) carrying 33 tonnes of groundnuts, a Toyota Hiace (T754 DJJ) transporting an engine and another Toyota Hiace (T435 DFJ) carrying 303 units of unbanned intoxicants.

Mr Mkalimoto said PCCB is conducting investigations and that the suspects will be arraigned in court once the inquiries are complete.
He also revealed that during the same period, PCCB conducted follow-ups on ten ongoing projects valued at 50.2bn/- to ensure proper use of public funds.
“Guidance was provided to projects with deficiencies to correct issues promptly,” he said.
The PCCB registered 121 complaints during the quarter, 86 of which were corruption-related.
Ten cases were filed in court, with the Republic of Tanzania winning seven of them. Mr Mkalimoto appealed to citizens to cooperate by reporting suspicious activities to the relevant authorities to ensure accountability.
