CCM seeks fairness in the allocation of business spaces at Bariadi Market

 Ramla Hamidu

BARIADI: THE ruling Chama cha Mapinduzi(CCM) has directed the Bariadi Town Council in Simiyu Region to ensure that traders who vacated the area to pave the way for the construction of the Bariadi Central Market are given priority when allocating business stalls.

CCM’s Secretary for Ideology, Publicity and Training, Kenan Kihongosi, issued the order today, March 9, 2026, while inspecting the ongoing construction of the market in Bariadi, during his visiting of the Lake Zone regions.

Before Mr Kihongosi’s order, Bariadi Town Council Engineer, Mr Hassan Katakweba, explained that the market project is being constructed at a cost of over 5.2bn/- and is among the projects implemented under the Tanzania Cities Transforming Infrastructure and Competitiveness Project (TACTIC) in the council.

The project is being executed by contractors SIHOTECH Engineering Company Ltd and Global Multi‑Contractor Company Limited, who won the tender and have so far completed about 25 per cent of the construction works.

Speaking after inspecting the project,Mr Kihongosi said the directive was issued because CCM is founded on principles that uphold human dignity and safeguard citizens’ rights.

“I have also instructed government leaders to ensure fairness and transparency in the allocation of stalls and shops in this market. Traders who were previously operating here must be given priority until all of them are accommodated before allowing new applicants,” he said.

He further called on public and party leaders to avoid situations where one individual, especially a leader, owns multiple shops for the purpose of renting them out to others.

“It will not be appropriate to see one person owning several shops. That practice has been prohibited. Those who qualify should be allocated shops through a transparent and fair process without favoritism or discrimination,”he insisted.

He expressed confidence that the directive will be effectively implemented by regional leaders, including the CCM Regional Chairperson, the Regional Commissioner, District Commissioner and other district leaders.
