Tanzania, Korea sign 422.16bn/- loan for Binguni referral hospital-Zanzibar

TANZANIA and South Korea solidified a significant milestone with the signing of a 422.16bn/- soft loan agreement to construct the Binguni Referral Hospital in Zanzibar.

The ceremony, which took place in Seoul, South Korea, saw Dr. Natu El-maamry Mwamba, the distinguished Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, representing the Tanzanian government.

On the Korean side, Hwang Kiyeon, the Senior Executive Director and Board Member of Exim Bank-Korea, signed the agreement, cementing a promising partnership between the two nations.

This auspicious event follows the official visit of President Samia Suluhu Hassan to Korea, commencing on May 31, 2024, marking a pivotal moment in bilateral relations between Tanzania and South Korea.

The successful negotiation and signing of the loan agreement underscore the commitment of both countries to fostering development and improving healthcare infrastructure in Tanzania.

The Binguni Referral Hospital project is set to revolutionize healthcare in Zanzibar, with plans for four specialized units dedicated to maternal and child health.

The facility will also boast a state-of-the-art training center, accommodations for staff, and advanced medical equipment, all designed to elevate the standard of healthcare services provided to the local community.

Dr. Saada Mkuya Salum, Minister of State for the President’s Office of Finance and Planning in Zanzibar, expressed her optimism regarding the positive impact of the Binguni Referral Hospital on the region.

She emphasized that the completion of this ambitious construction project will not only enhance healthcare access for Zanzibar residents but also contribute to a tangible decrease in mortality rates through the delivery of superior health services and advanced medical technologies.

Additionally, the establishment of a cutting-edge training facility equipped with modern educational resources is poised to revolutionize health education programs in the region, further boosting the knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals.

This partnership between Tanzania and South Korea exemplifies a shared commitment to advancing healthcare infrastructure and services in Zanzibar.
