COAST REGION: As President Samia pushes for the use of clean energy, the African Reflection Foundation, in collaboration with Oryx Energies, has distributed 400 gas
cylinders to women in Mkuranga, Coast region, to translate the Head of State’s vision into reality. The handover took place on Thursday during the launching ceremony of the Mkuranga Women Clean Cooking Support Program (MWCCSP).
Women living in Mwarusembe ward, Kinene, and Kisele villages were the beneficiaries of the clean energy campaign. During the launch, Rufiji District Commissioner Major Gowele noted that Mkuranga women would benefit from the gas cylinders as they help in environmental conservation and save money and time spent searching for and collecting firewood.
The move aligns with President Samia’s ambition to ensure that over 80% of Tanzanians use clean energy by 2030.
“There are adverse effects due to the use of wood and charcoal, including climate change due to deforestation and potential health challenges due to inhaling smoke,” he said.
He added that gas cylinders are more cost-effective than charcoal, as one can spend up to 45,000/- to buy a sack of charcoal, which lasts only a month while a gas user can refill a cylinder for only 23,000/-.
