DODOMA: THE Royal Tour documentary, in which President Samia Suluhu Hassan participated as a tour guide, has massively benefited the nation, with a surge in tourist arrivals.
Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Mr Danstan Kitandula outlined the benefits in Parliament yesterday when responding to the question posed by Special Seats legislator, Ms Amina Hassan (CCM).
The Special Seats MP sought the government’s answer on the number of tourists who arrived in the country since the production of the documentary.
According to the deputy minister, from May to December 2022, the country recorded 40. 38 per cent increase in tourist arrivals.
The deputy minister said during the period, the number of tourists recorded was 1,086,143 compared to the same period in 2021 when the number of tourists recorded was 647,595.
The deputy minister said the number of tourists continued to rise since then, saying between May and December 2023, the number of tourist arrivals recorded was 1,302,271.
Mr Kitandula said in 2023 a total of 1,808,206 tourists jetted into the country to visit various tourist destinations, compared to 1,454,920 tourists who visited the country in 2022.
“The number of tourist arrivals recorded is clear evidence that Royal Tour film brought positive results in the tourism sector, and it important for Tanzanians to support President Samia’s efforts in enhancing the sector’s growth,” Mr Kitandula said.
The deputy minister said, cognizant of the importance of the tourism sector for the country’s development, the government saw it necessary to carry out a campaign focusing on convincing people from across the globe to visit Tanzania’s tourist destinations.

Mr Kitandula said plans are now underway to launch a documentary involving President Samia and Zanzibar President Dr Hussein Mwinyi.
Early this month, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa told the House that following the remarkable success of the Royal Tour film, the country is now poised to further increase its visitor numbers.
According to the Prime Minister, the government believes that the launch of another documentary, named ‘Amazing Tanzania,’ will serve as a catalyst to attract even more tourists, predominantly from China, to visit the country.
“Building upon the remarkable success of the ‘Tanzania: The Royal Tour’s film the government has produced another world-class tourism promotional film titled ‘Amazing Tanzania,” Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa was quoted as informing the Parliament early this month.
He said that the film features recordings by President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Zanzibar’s President Hussein Ali Mwinyi, along with renowned Chinese actor Jin Dong.
“The film aims to attract tourists, especially from the Chinese market, and is scheduled for launch in May 2024,” Mr Majaliwa said.
The Royal Tour’s documentary, gained popularity between August and September 2021 before subsequently being screened in various locations, including New York on April 18, 2022, Los Angeles on April 21, 2022, Arusha on April 28, 2022, Zanzibar on May 7, 2022, and Dar es Salaam on May 8, 2022
