DAR ES SALAAM: POLICE in Dar es Salaam have apprehended 30 individuals suspected of forging various documents associated with the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) in an attempt to illegally obtain payments from the fund.
The Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Muliro Muliro while briefing the media in the city yesterday said that the suspects were nabbed during operations conducted in collaboration with the NSSF between December 2023 and April 2024.
According to Muliro, the suspects were found in possession of counterfeit documents, including resignation letters, service certificates, false medical reports, fake dismissal notices and forged NSSF benefit application forms.
Among those arrested were Diocress Kahwa (35), a resident of Mbezi and a teacher at Maxmilian Primary School in Segerea, Barnabas Bonivencha, along with 11 others from a private security company G4S, who submitted false resignation letters to claim benefits while still employed.
SACP Muliro added that others who were arrested include Gregory Rweikiza (44), a resident of Goba, and Carolina Mushi (37), a resident of Upanga, an employee of Stanbic Bank, for allegedly forging hospital reports to claim medical benefits.
Others arrested are Michael Mpogolo (38) and Sabato Thomas (27), residents of Madale Mivumoni, Dar es Salaam, for allegedly forging documents of two deceased workers (Servas Tesha and Korodias Shoo) who were employed at the Geita Gold Mine.
“All suspects will be brought to court as soon as possible to answer the charges against them,” he said, warning the public against fraudulent activities or document forgery, as they will be apprehended and face severe legal consequences, including prosecution.
Additionally, from January to March 2024, the Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police successfully brought various suspects to court, including Joshua Saidi from Kinondoni, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape, and two others, Karmal Mohamed and Mfaume Hassan from Kigamboni and Ukonga, who were sentenced to life imprisonment for sodomy.
Another defendant, Justine Kasera from Kinondoni was sentenced to 60 years for rape and sodomy, while Meshack Michael from Kinondoni was sentenced to 50 years for rape.
Babu Ally Mwinyinvua from Mburahati and four others were each sentenced to 30 years for rape. Other cases are at various stages of trial.
Citizens are urged to come forward to provide evidence in court regarding such incidents.
Furthermore, from January to March 2024, a total of 221,724 road safety violations were recorded by Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police, including 173,190 vehiclerelated offences and 48,534 motorcycle-related offences, resulting in various legal actions, including on-the-spot fines and some drivers/riders being brought to court.
Eighty-nine drivers were brought to court, 60 were fined for driving under the influence, 759 were fined for crossing red lights, and 3,779 motorcycle drivers were arrested for carrying excess passengers. Additionally, there were 217,034 other offences.
Meanwhile, regarding the Eid Al-Fitr festivities, all drivers are directed not to use alcohol while driving, and parents are reminded to avoid leaving young children unattended in the streets and other areas.
“We are prepared to ensure enhanced security in all areas of the city, including places of worship, streets, beaches and residential areas. The police force wishes everyone a happy holiday,” he noted.
Police Spokespersons, Deputy Commissioner of Police, David Misime said everything is in place to ensure Muslims and Tanzanians enjoy the festivities in quiet and peaceful environment.
