ZANZIBAR: President Dr Hussein Mwinyi and the Consul General of Oman in Zanzibar Sheikh Said Salim Al Sinawi have committed to boosting the two countries’ bilateral ties in various sectors including health and education.
The two leaders made the commitment here during an engagement Iftar dinner hosted by the Consul General of Oman in Zanzibar.
Iftar is the meal eaten by Muslims to break their fast after sunset every day during the holy month of Ramadan. Muslims and non-Muslims including institutions organise Iftar to strengthen good relations and as a charity for the needy.
Dr Mwinyi further promised to continue the long-term cooperation between Zanzibar and Oman as he praised the Arab country for continued support to the united republic of Tanzania in achieving development goals.
“We appreciate what Oman has been doing for Zanzibar and Tanzania in general. Maintaining good relations remains important,” Dr Mwinyi said.
He also thanked Oman for supporting the ongoing renovation of the historical buildings in the Stone Town including the famous House of Wonders, which partly collapsed on Christmas Day in 2020.
During the Iftar, Sheikh Ambassador Al Sinawi also expressed his satisfaction with the current good relations with Tanzania and its people, promising continued support towards development programmes.
