TANZANIA: MORE than 500 orphans and vulnerable children from seven orphanage centres in Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar have benefitted from various donations extended by NMB Bank in one month.
The orphanages supported by NMB support during the just-ended month of Ramadan are from Dar es Salaam and Dodoma regions as well as Zanzibar.
During the period, NMB through its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) strategy organised Iftar events for its customers, government leaders as well as orphans and vulnerable children. Speaking in an Iftar organised by the Bank recently, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa said these children are the leaders of the next generation and thus providing their necessities should be a prerequisite.
“This act of compassion aims to bring smiles to the faces of the orphaned and abandoned children and provide them with much-needed support,” he said adding I encourage other corporate entities to emulate NMB to bring smiles to the faces of the young orphans and provide them with much-needed support.
PM Majaliwa also lauded NMB for supporting various socio-economic initiatives across the country adding that the bank’s initiatives complement the government’s efforts to enhance social service delivery.
He also tasked local government and municipal councils to identify orphaned and abandoned children and coordinate their basic needs.
The bank undertook an inclusive approach towards Iftar events and invited orphaned children after they were offered an assortment of items during the month of Ramadan.
On his part, the Second Vice-President of Zanzibar Hemed Suleiman Abdullah said in an Iftar held in Zanzibar to orphaned and vulnerable children lauded NMB for maintaining a positive culture of organising Iftar events for its customers adding that the bank has been instrumental in supporting Zanzibar’s development agenda.
“This is a very positive gesture and I salute you for bringing on board orphaned and vulnerable children I believe you have left a big mark in the hearts of these children,” he added.
During the bank’s Iftar event held in Zanzibar, the Bank’s Chief Executive Officer Ms Ruth Zaipuna reiterated that her bank has over the years hosted Iftar events as a sign of gratitude for its customers’ continued trust as the bank of their choice.
“Organising Iftar events is our long-time tradition, aligning with our ‘Closer to You’ philosophy. We are glad to organise this event for the Zanzibar Muslim community and orphaned and vulnerable children,” she said.
She added, “We at NMB believe that the presence of these children at this Iftar event is an opportunity for them to learn and continue to be motivated in doing good and being generous to the community around them,” She urged orphaned and vulnerable children to continue to grow in faith and increase their efforts in everything they do in life, especially in their studies.
In an Iftar event held in Dodoma recently, the Speaker of Parliament Dr Tulia Ackson hailed NMB for being at the forefront of supporting various development initiatives in the country.
“I commend the bank for this generous and positive gesture that seeks to give back to communities. I also take this opportunity to thank the bank’s management for being at the forefront of supporting various development initiatives across the country,” she said.
She added, “I believe that the bank’s efforts to support various communities including orphaned and vulnerable children will bear fruits soon as NMB Bank has been creating a bond with the needy during this holy month of Ramadan.”
Speaking on behalf of Darul Maarifa – Masjid Gaddafi Orphanage, Airport Dodoma, “On behalf of the orphanage’s management, I extend my appreciation to the bank for organising the Iftar and providing an assortment of items to orphans.
” The Guardian, Zamzam Islamic School – Mihuji, Dodoma, Mr Hamid Salum said, “We are grateful for the Iftar event hosted by NMB and for the assortment of goodies handed over to us. We wish the bank success so it can continue supporting other orphanages. We call upon other stakeholders to extend their support as well,” Kidundo Orphanage – Zanzibar Chairman Khalid Kidundo said, “Our centre caters for both orphaned children and the elderly commend NMB for organising Iftar and offering various items,”
