MPs approves Energy Ministry’s 1.8tri/- spending plan

DODOMA: The lawmakers have today approved the Energy Ministry’s spending plan, amounting to 1.8tri/- for the 2024/25 fiscal year.

In the forthcoming fiscal year, the ministry is determined to address power challenges permanently by repairing transmission infrastructures.

The docket’s Minister, Dr. Dotto Biteko, who also serves as Deputy Prime Minister, noted that as of March this year, the state of electricity generation in the country has increased from 1,872.1 MW to 2,138 MW, up by 14.2 percent.

He promised that the Ministry will manage, strengthen, and develop the energy sector, a move that has helped the country in generating more power.

“In recognition of the importance of energy in stimulating and accelerating the economic and social development of our nation, in the year 2024/25, the Ministry of Energy will continue to take effective measures to manage, strengthen, and develop the energy sector, with the aim of ensuring the sector contributes to the development of the nation accordingly,” he told the MPs in Dodoma.

According to him, the Julius Nyerere Hydroelectricity Project (JNHPP), with the capacity to produce 2,115 MW, where production has already started with 235 MW through plant No. 9, is expected to be completed in December 2024 for all eight plants, with the capacity to generate 235 MW each.
