KILIMANJARO: MINISTRY of Water has started to implement President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directives by installing prepaid water metres to clients.
The implementation of the directives will contribute in avoiding complaints from customers, especially those which are related to overcharging of water bills.
This has been said over the weekend, by the Minister for Water Mr Jumaa Aweso, when officiating the closing of the three days working session for the Chief Executive Officers of the water and sanitation authorities countrywide.
The meeting held in Kilimanjaro Region, was meant to discuss and set strategies to improve the provision of water services in the country.
“President Samia Suluhu Hassan gave the directives to the Ministry of Water to make sure pre-paid water metres are installed to customers countrywide,” he said.
He added, “She directed the ministry to start providing the pre-paid services to public institutions and later on to the people; she told us to make sure that we find metres with simple technology, which can be available easily and cost-effective.”
During the meeting, Minister Aweso, tasked CEOs to improve efficiency in their performances that will help among other things, to deal with challenges facing their clients.
Mr Aweso said, that, there are some officials who tend to think that lack clean and safe water services was just a common thing.
“The government through the ministry cannot tolerate such officials; the truth here is that, water issues must be given top priority,” he noted.
Earlier, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary Engineer Mwajuma Waziri used the session to task the water authorities CEOs to create good relationships in the workplace with their subordinates.
“Without solidarity among the ministry of staff members we cannot provide good services to the nation,” she said.
